Relaxed Performance: Starter Kit

Welcome to the relaxed performance starter kit!

There are 6 essentials for the practice of relaxed performance. Read below to learn more about each of these essentials.

Be sure to check out the video that accompanies each of them to learn more about their application and start your practice!

This is not meant to create a long check-list of things on your to-do list. Rather it’s a chance to assess where you might tweak some things to make your practice more well-rounded, effective, and relaxed!

Happy Practicing.

Breath

The breath is the perfect place to start your focus.

You’re breathing right now, aware of it or not, so it’s not a stretch to add a little intention.

The breath has the power to shift our state, physiology, psychology and posture.

Why not harness the power of this tool and use it to your advantage?

Movement

How well and how much we move absolutely impacts how we feel. If we move well and move enough there is a good chance we’ll feel well too.

Our bodies, minds, and even spirit crave movement.

Having a movement practice can feel different than gritting or grinding in the gym. It’s not all about outward appearances but rather spending time in the amazing vehicle that is your body.

Mindfulness

It’s hard to solve any problem if you’re not aware that it exists.

Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention.

What is present right now? What is requiring your attention or action? This is a simple practice but certainly not easy.

Mindfulness can be any activity in which you have no external inputs. Walking, meditating, etc. Nothing coming in, just some space to mentally digest.

How often do you practice mindfulness?

Space

Everything functions well with enough space to do so. Our body and mind is no different.

Everything from our joints to our organs function and feel well if they have enough space.

Creating space for yourself is not a luxury, it’s an essential need of our nature.

Sometimes the stresses of our days can constrict the space within our body. Gaining that space back is possible with the right exercises.

Breathwork, myofascial stretching and ELDOA are amazing tools to bring space back into the body.

Care

Care is a mindset.

So much self-development puts all the focus on restriction, or challenge. Diets, 10-day challenges, etc.

Not enough emphasis is put on care. If you want to feel nourished, rested, and prepared you need to learn the skill of care.

Food can be an incredible resource for care and not only something to restrict.

Exercise can be therapeutic as well. Something that makes you feel better, instead of some torture to grind through.

Shifting from a restriction/ grind approach to a caring one can help your efforts feel better and far more sustainable.

Skill

Few things can relax you more than confidence. How do you gain confidence? You build skill. How do you build skill? You practice.

Whatever it is that you’re pursuing, there is a skill that will make you more effective and make the work more enjoyable.

In order to build skill, and gain confidence, you must practice. Finding the right skill can help with your performance and your health.

Taking a practice mindset to skill-building can empower you to become the solution instead of needing to look elsewhere for it.

What skill would help you in your meaningful work? How do you practice?
